When I think of dieting and exercising a few thoughts spring to mind, and they are usually jokes.
“I decided to take an aerobics class, I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down for an hour, but by the time I got my leotard on the class was over”
“Don’t forget you are what you eat ………….. I need to eat a skinny person”
“I wear all black when I work out ……………… It’s like a funeral for my fat”
“2 little kids looking at a scale, one kid says to the other one “don’t step on it, it makes you cry”
“There are seven days in a week and “someday” isn’t one of them”
All joking apart optimum health and fitness has not been a priority in my life and it has to be!!
So, the time has come to get serious. I can make all the jokes that I want but it’s time to “just do it” as Nike says
So, no more, of the, “I’ll start on Monday”. “Or after this chocolate bar I’ll start my diet”.
After chatting with some Moms and health advisors recently on The New Era Moms show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWXiu4JmaI4&feature=youtube_gdata_player I promised to get on board and commit to me.
As Moms I believe we are innately programmed to take care of everyone’s needs and not so much our own.
I know personally I have thought of self-care as a luxury not a necessity and as Shira Adatto told us during our chat you have to change your mindset.
For me it starts now, I am no longer fighting against myself to take care of myself.
I am reminding myself that if I don’t take better care of myself I may not be around as long as I planned to grow gracefully old with my husband or see my darling son grow up, he is only 16 months, we still have a lifetime ahead of us.
I am going to walk 3 times a week, I am going to try a Zumba class off the fitness schedule in front of me and I am going to start a healthy eating campaign.
I am going to make a shift, a lifestyle shift.
Wish me luck !
As I type this it is Thursday evening, don’t hold it against me just this once if I say “I am going to start on Monday “
Well I am embarrassed to say I didn’t get started …… so desperate measures are required.
I have enlisted the services of a Health and Wellness Coach, I need to be accountable and it appears that is what I am paying her for …………… to hold me accountable . 5 sessions and a grocery tour ……… I need all the help I can get.
I forgot to say, during the New Era Mom’s session, I took the mantra of “nothing tastes as good as being skinny” to “nothing tastes as good as being healthy” and wouldn’t you know when I met my coach that was her zinger too : )
I will keep you posted.
